Police brutality has been seen in the news for as long as I can remember. Many people, such as another TED talker, Damon Davis, have been to protests to rally against this. I believe college is important to any student to get them ready for the real world, but when children are being arrested before they can reach that point, they aren't given the ability to become thriving citizens. Whether there was a crime committed or not, these teens need to be given opportunities to succeed instead of being punished. I feel that is what is one of the most important things we can change, because these teens are the future of America.

The talk is about the two most important institutions impacting the youth of America today, College and Prison. Goffman says we are getting some kids ready for prison based on their living situation. In places like Philadelphia neighborhoods and other bad streets, the kids are being surrounded by policemen every day. Most of them are being charged with such minor things that people in better neighborhoods would have not been charged with for committing the same acts. These kids are immediately seen as crime starters and when they do something even slightly bad, they could get arrested and charged. Goffman believes the kids need to e offered new resources for success rather than being constantly punished for their mistakes.
